Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is a group of volunteers who set the strategy and oversee the governance of Plymouth & District Mind. The board meets on a monthly basis.

Steve Scott (Chair)
Steve Scott is a mental wellbeing coach and trainer and works extensively with Mind and their corporate clients throughout the UK. He has lived in Plymouth since 1970, and is married with three grown up children. Having had Bi-polar Disorder since the age of 17 and experienced a major breakdown in 2006, he passionately believes that mental ill health can be a great teacher and that the road to recovery starts with accepting that restoration to good mental health starts when you positively interpret your experiences and learn what your mind is trying to tell you. Steve has been involved with Plymouth Mind since 2006, when he trained as a peer support volunteer and then joined the Board of Trustees and became Chairman 3 years ago.
Janet Pounsberry (Vice-Chair)
Janet worked in the field of Health and Social Care, for many years, originally qualifying as a nurse, then moving into management. She has always been committed to the needs of the most vulnerable in society, and is now actively seeking to support Plymouth and District Mind more actively, in her role as vice chair. Janet is currently working in a management and quality assurance capacity with a local construction firm, and supporting her husband in the development of his architectural practice.
Stephen Emery (Treasurer)
Stephen trained and qualified as an accountant with Price Waterhouse in Southampton, and had spells in their Jersey and Cardiff offices before joining Mathias & Co in 1987. Stephen heads up the Business Support team at Condy Manthias & Co, providing accountancy software training and support, payroll and VAT services to clients.
Stephen has been the Treasurer of a Plymouth & District Mind for over 20 years has an intense interest in all matters relating to aviation.
Paul Guildford has 35 years’ management experience in construction and property developing. He has lived in Plymouth since 1983 and is married with 2 children. He also has nine years’ experience as a school governor. He believes in addressing mental health issues in a positive and constructive manner. Paul has been involved with Plymouth Mind as a trustee since 2013
Lara Lewis is a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist who is passionate about the brain and how we can use our minds to create positive change in our lives. Lara joined Plymouth Mind as a Trustee because of her belief that good mental health is the starting point for a happy and fulfilled life. She is a wife and mother of two, a qualified teacher and not so secret science fiction fan.
Duncan’s background is predominately in media and History. He trained as a broadcast journalist in 1997 and went on to work for ITV Westcountry where he wrote news bulletins before progressing into work in the world of Current Affairs. Duncan has always been a keen supporter of raising awareness about mental health issues and runs a number of support groups for people affected by depression. Since leaving the television industry, Duncan retrained as a psychotherapy practitioner and also enjoys running in his free time – a hobby which he extends to organized events to raise money for Mind and other mental health charities.
Mick came as a volunteer in 2008 to Plymouth Mind to support people who were using the ‘Oasis’ drop in centre and he has used the services of Plymouth Mind also as a service user. He trained as a Peer support Volunteer to support other people attending drop-in services. Mick joined the Board of Trustees in 2009 to represent other services users. Mick moved to Plymouth whilst serving in the military he has previous experience as a volunteer of supporting veterans with mental ill health and homelessness in 4 other veterans charities.
