Recovery College Courses

Our courses are all designed to support you to develop positive lifestyles and choices.

If the demand is high enough for a particular course, we may add additional dates. If you are on the waiting list for a course, you will be contacted to inform you of the new dates.

*Please note – you must complete a Registration Form  and make an appointment to meet with a member of staff before you can enrol on any of the courses.*

Developing Self-Esteem: 9 hour course over 3 sessions  

This course is designed for individuals experiencing low levels of self-esteem who may not value themselves or their opinions. This course will help to increase levels of self-esteem by encouraging thought and behaviour change.

This course will run again in January 2019 – we will be putting dates up here in November 2018

Cultivating Mindfulness: 8 hour course over 4 sessions  

It is not always possible to avoid stress but we can learn to cope with its negative effects. This course will teach participants how to use mindfulness techniques such as breathing, visualisation and meditation.

Coping Strategies for Stress and Anxiety: 8 hour course over 4 sessions

The course will include elements of the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction model (MBSR) developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, and is specifically for people with high levels of stress and anxiety.

Managing Depression and Anxiety: 4 hour course over 2 sessions

This course is designed to enable people with mild-moderate depression and anxiety to develop their life skills. Participants will learn to identify the link between their thoughts, feelings and behaviours, as well as having the opportunity to learn and practice new strategies.

Understanding Your Anger*: 12 hour course over 3 sessions

This course is designed for people who recognise that their anger is having a negative impact on their own lives, or those around them. It will provide an opportunity for participants to begin to understand their own feelings and triggers.

Session 1: Thursday 8th November 11-3pm
Session 2: Thursday 15th November 11-3pm
Session 3: Thursday 22nd November 11-3pm

Please note –  this course requires an initial assessment, followed by a short interview closer to the course date to assess people’s emotional readiness to successfully participate in the course. The waiting list for this course is currently 6 months.

Becoming More Confident, Assertive and Positive: 6 hour course over three sessions 

Being assertive, confident and positive can help us feel good about ourselves and make our life easier.  This course will help you understand what we mean by ‘confidence, assertiveness and positivity’ and will give you the tools to develop these skills for yourself.

Session 1: Becoming Confident – Wednesday 14th November 1.30-3.30pm
Session 2: Becoming Assertive – Wednesday 21st November 1.30-3.30pm
Session 3: Becoming Positive – Wednesday 28th November 1.30-3.30pm
Session 1: Becoming Assertive – Wednesday 5th December 1-3pm
Session 2: Becoming Confident – Monday 10th December 11-1pm
Session 3: Becoming Positive – Thursday 13th September 11-1pm

Conflict Resolution: 3 hour course over 1 session

Are you able to handle conflict in a respectful positive way? If your answer is no – this course will enable you to handle conflict in a non-confrontational way.
NEXT COURSE DATES:
No current dates in the diary but we plan to deliver this course again in February 2019.

Riding the Emotional Rollercoaster : 6 hour course over 3 sessions

This course will introduce elements of techniques such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Compassionate Mind Training to help you understand and learn skills to manage your emotional ups and downs.
